Political scientist: Azerbaijan’s presidency in NAM gave it new impetus

Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement gave the organization an impetus to achieve its policy of peaceful coexistence, non-violence and non-participation in conflicts, political consultant and researcher Basel Haj Jasem told Report.

He noted that one of the goals of the Movement is to reduce tension in the world and find ways of peaceful coexistence between countries: “Therefore, Azerbaijan's leadership of the movement for three years, Baku's economic potential and its good diplomatic relations in the world give the movement an impetus in achieving its policies of peaceful coexistence, non-violence and non-engagement in conflicts.”

"In this context, we should not forget that there are difficulties facing the Non-Aligned Movement and its members, such as the lack of mutual trust between countries due to many factors and causes, whether they are religious, political or economic."

“Azerbaijan provided financial and humanitarian assistance to more than 80 countries, most of which are members of the Non-Aligned Movement, during the Corona epidemic, and this is a good sign, especially if efforts are joined with Arab countries and other countries with economic and political weight,” Jasem concluded.
