The spread of aggressive and Islamophobic calls in the media leads to further escalation of the issue, Qatari specialist Karim Mejri said at the international conference on "Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges", Report informs.
He said that Islamophobia is a new understanding of an old fear:
"Anti-Semitism is synonymous with this concept. Based on the survey conducted in the US and Canada, we can say that the West is biased towards Muslims. Some European countries also agreed with the results of this survey. I believe more preventive measures should be taken in this area rather than reacting after an incident. In this regard, it is necessary to support young Muslim journalists."
Mejri said that a journalist should be honest and take responsibility for the accuracy of their reporting: "Slander, incitement to hatred, and spreading information without clarification are not honest and professional journalism. Some journalists use their material to incite societal hatred, which is more common in Western media."
