Secretary General speaks about Council of Europe-Azerbaijan cooperation

The new Action Plan developed jointly with the national agencies of Azerbaijan has been carefully prepared, the Secretary-General of Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić said during the presentation of the organization's new Action Plan for Azerbaijan 2022-2025.

The Secretary-General noted that the approaches were explicitly presented to each country:

"In previous action programs, steps have been taken to strengthen human rights. Significant progress has been made in this area by increasing experience. The adoption and implementation of new laws can lead to real change."

Burić said that innovations had been achieved in the field of the rule of law:

"We assisted in bringing civil, commercial, and administrative matters into line with European standards. A technical document on combating the financing of terrorism has been prepared and is expected to be adopted. We believe that together we will achieve more."

She said that the total budget of the Action Plan is 9.6 million euros, of which 1.1 million has already been provided.
