Shevchenko: Signing of Declaration - unprecedented convergence between Azerbaijan and Russia

The signing of the Declaration on allied interaction between Azerbaijan and Russia is an unprecedented convergence between the two countries in the post-Soviet space, Russian political scientist, journalist, TV host, and public figure Maxim Shevchenko told Report's Russian bureau.

Shevchenko called the Declaration signed by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia a historic document that evidences the countries' readiness to continue and boost cooperation in the future.

He said the signing of the Declaration is a logical continuation of mutual ties between Azerbaijan and Russia.

"This document has become a logical result of the great friendship between our peoples. The Russian president has clearly voiced his position despite a serious lobby in Russia, saying Karabakh is Azerbaijan," Shevchenko said.

On February 22, the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia, Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin, signed a declaration on allied interaction. The document contains over 40 provisions on the broadest interaction.
