Türkiye is undergoing a major transformation of its key economic sectors in line with its vision of achieving a "zero waste" goal and environmentally clean development by 2053, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the COP29 summit in Baku, according to Report.
The "Zero Waste" project, initiated by Türkiye, is making significant contributions to the fight against climate change, the Turkish leader said, adding that since its implementation, the project has prevented the emission of 5.9 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
President Erdogan highlighted that Türkiye's National Energy Efficiency Action Plan, spanning from 2024 to 2030, aims to reduce emissions equivalent to 100 million tons of carbon dioxide.
"Today, we will increase our installed capacity of wind and solar energy from 31,000 megawatts to 120,000 megawatts by 2035. In the field of nuclear energy, we aim to reach a capacity of 20,000 megawatts by 2050," Erdogan announced.
He said Türkiye has also put forward its candidacy to host the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in 2026.
