Interaction between Azerbaijan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would contribute to the intensification of mutual trade and the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on December 15, Report informs referring to TASS.
She was commenting on the proposal of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, that Azerbaijan might become an observer in the EAEU.
“The development of a dialogue between Azerbaijan and the EAEU in any format would contribute to the intensification of mutual trade, unblocking of transport arteries in the region and the implementation of large-scale regional and not only regional infrastructure projects. It is important and necessary to take into account that the decision to increase the level of interaction of the Union is made with the consent of all member states and the interested party following a comprehensive expert study of the possible economic consequences of such a step,” she said.
She noted that the EAEU is open to states that share its goals, principles and are interested in closer integration and interaction: “First of all, we mean the CIS countries, which maintain the closest ties with the member states in the field of cooperation.”
