Today marks the 99th anniversary of the birth of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva, Report informs.
Zarifa Aliyeva was born on April 28, 1923, in the Sharur district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
In 1947, she graduated from the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, named after Nariman Narimanov. She worked as a researcher at the Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Institute of Ophthalmology and since 1969 as an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors, named after A. Aliyev, professor, head of the laboratory of vacation pathology of eye organs, director of the ophthalmology department (1982-1985).
Aliyeva did remarkable things in the development of the science of ophthalmology. She is the author of a lot of capacious research on the analysis of trachoma widespread in Azerbaijan, the top vocational diseases in the world, especially eye diseases connected with the vocational activities in chemical and electron industries, of its prevention and treatment and the modern problems of ophthalmology, as well as one of the authors of the unique scientific works "Therapeutic ophthalmology" and "The principals of iridodiagnosis". She wrote 12 monographs, manuals, about 150 scientific works, one invention, and 12 rationalization proposals. Zarifa Aliyeva did many things in training high-qualified medical staff.
Academician Zarifa Aliyeva was a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Ophthalmologists society, Soviet Peace Defense Committee, the Executive Board of the Azerbaijani Ophthalmologic Society, and the editorial staff of "The Vestnik ophthalmologu" magazine (Moscow).
She was awarded with the price of M.I. Averbach of the Medical Scientific Academy of the USSR (1981) for her high scientific achievements.
Aliyeva died on April 15, 1985, in Moscow. Her corpse was brought from Novo-Devichya cemetery in Moscow to Baku and was buried in Fakhri Khiyaban (Honored Avenue) near her father's grave.
