The Delta variant of COVID is rapidly overtaking others and leading to an increase in hospitalizations and deaths. Delta is projected to dominate the WHO European Region by August, Director of the WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge told reporters during an online briefing, Report informs.
However, Kluge noted that the European region wouldn’t be fully vaccinated by the last summer month. So, 63 percent of people are still waiting for their first vaccination. That being said, the WHO European Region will remain largely free of restrictions in August as travel and meetings increase.
He emphasized that one shouldn’t forget about the need for vaccination against COVID, adding that the slower vaccination is taking place, the more COVID variants will emerge.
