Scientists reveal effects of meditation on brain functioning

Regular meditation can help speed up brain function and improve focus, Report informs, citing an article by scientists from Binghamton University (USA), published in Scientific Reports.

The research was carried out among students under the age of 20 who practiced meditation for two months. As a result, scientists found that this practice allowed students to achieve faster switching between two general brain states - focusing on the outside world and tasks requiring increased attention.

The scientists emphasize that at the beginning and end of the experiment, the participants underwent an MRI scan of the brain, making it possible to say that students who meditate become more focused on essential things and better assimilate the educational material.

The university experts plan to conduct similar studies with the participation of older people.

In particular, they plan to do research with a group of healthy older people and then with a group of people with mild cognitive impairment or early Alzheimer's to see if changes in the brain after the meditation can improve cognitive ability.
