Scientists say effect of booster vaccinations against coronavirus short-lived

Booster shots against coronavirus increase protection against severe forms of the disease, including infections from the latest mutations of the virus, but their effect quickly fades away, Le Figaro wrote, Report informs via Interfax.

This conclusion was reached by scientists who conducted research under the auspices of the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and the insurance fund Assurance Maladie.

Repeated doses improved protection against the risk of hospitalization, but this protection was limited in time, the scientists said.

The publication notes that this is the latest in a series of studies on the effectiveness of anti-covid vaccines since the beginning of their use. Mainly Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines are used in France. They have proven to be effective against severe forms of the disease, although they "slightly reduce the risk of subsequent infection in the medium or long term."

Even for cases requiring hospitalization, the effectiveness of vaccinations tends to decline over time, which is why the country's health authorities organized booster campaigns with the third, fourth and already fifth doses.

However, writes Le Figaro, there is still not enough evidence of the real benefit of these sequential booster vaccinations, especially after the emergence of the omicron strain, which has several varieties and eludes protective measures more easily.
