The Electronic Security Service under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies has explained what caused the outage of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, Report informs.
The statement says that users could not access the platforms for several hours on October 4.
According to a statement from Facebook, the failure in Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp was caused by faulty configuration change.
“Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centres caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centres communicate, bringing our services to a halt,” Facebook said.
There is currently no evidence of user data leaks.
