In the aftermath of the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan has been diligently working to clear its liberated territories of mines and unexploded ordnance.
According to Hafiz Safikhanov, the head of the public association "Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines," a staggering 126,663 mines and unexploded ordnance have been discovered since November 10, 2020, when a trilateral statement was adopted between Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia.
The demining efforts have been extensive, with 152,619 hectares of territory cleared as of July 31, 2024. Among the hazardous items found, 32,940 are anti-personnel mines, 19,956 are anti-tank mines, and 73,767 are unexploded ordnance.
