The World Wrestling Union (WWU) has stripped Russia of the first place in the 2017 FILA European Wrestling Championships, granting it to the Azerbaijani team, Report informs.
The reason for this was the positive result of the doping test of Anzor Boltukaev, who at that time played for the Russian national team.
The athlete in the weight category up to 97 kg lost to Turkiye’s Rize Yildirim in the final of the continental championship in the Serbian city of Novi Sad and brought nine points to his country. However, due to an anti-doping rule violation, the wrestler’s results were annulled.
Thus, nine points were deducted from the assets of the Russian team in the team event, and the Azerbaijani team with 58 points automatically rose from the second to the first line and became the European champion in freestyle wrestling.
