Over the past few years, Azerbaijan has invested billions of dollars in transport infrastructure, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said, speaking at the annual summit of foreign ministers of the land-locked and developing countries.
Report informs that, according to the foreign minister, who cited the information of the World Economic Forum, owing to such steps, Azerbaijan now ranks 27th in the world in quality of roads, 11th in the effectiveness of railway services, and 12th in the effectiveness of air transportation.
He noted that with the annual transportation capacity of 6.5 million tons, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line makes it possible to reduce transportation time between China and the countries of Southeastern Europe by 70%. The minister added that today, the loading capacity of the Baku International Trade Seaport is 10 million tons, including 100 million containers. Additionally, Azerbaijan, which has more than 260 ships, has the largest commercial fleet in the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan has made considerable efforts to build the necessary infrastructure to turn the country into a logistic and transit hub, and this process continues, the minister said.
