Construction of the runway at Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli International Airport was entrusted to AzVirt LLC, which has extensive experience in this area, Report informs, quoting Vice-President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Etibar Huseynov.
He noted that the runway and the airport apron would be commissioned by the end of this year.
The chief engineer of the contractor, Jafaraga Shiriyev, said that the construction work would be completed in April-May next year.
"As you know, there used to be an airport here, which ceased operations after the well-known events. The length of its runway was 1,600 meters. The length of the runway of the new airport will be 3,000 meters. Construction began about a month ago. We cannot accelerate its pace because the territory was mined and mine clearance works are underway. To speed up the construction, we purchased two modern asphalt and concrete units. They are currently being installed at the base. We plan to organize our work after spring on a 24-hour basis and commission the runway this year. All construction work will be completed in April-May next year," he added.
