The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport is working to take full advantage of the potential of the East-West international transport corridor and increase the competitiveness of its section through Azerbaijan, said Aida Badalova, Adviser to the Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Report informs.
"Transport infrastructure rehabilitation projects will also expand the transit capacity of the region and Azerbaijan as a whole in the construction of the Zangazur corridor. The Zangazur corridor will provide a direct land connection with Nakhchivan, as well as the shortest land link between China and Southern Europe in the East-West corridor. We believe that the passage of major transport corridors through our country will contribute to forming a "steadily growing competitive economy." To this end, purposeful work is being done to take full advantage of the potential of the East-West corridor and increase the competitiveness of its section through Azerbaijan. Thus, work is underway with relevant agencies and transport companies to determine specific routes and transparent tariffs along the corridor, establish control mechanisms for them, ensure the movement of regular container trains, and provide effective management (expedition) of operations along the entire route. As for the North-South corridor, Iran and Azerbaijan have signed a protocol on the construction of a highway bridge over the Astarachay River, work has been done with the Russian side to expand the capacity of border checkpoints on both sides, and the first container block train of Azerbaijan Railways has been sent from Helsinki to the Indian port of Nhava Sheva," Badalova said.
