In 2023, 26.2 billion cubic meters of water resources formed in Azerbaijan, Sadiq Gurbanov, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, said, Report informs.
According to Gurbanov, of this volume, surface water resources account for 17.8 billion cubic meters, and underground water resources are responsible for 8.4 billion cubic meters:
"Some 4.6 billion cubic meters of surface water resources were formed within the country's territory, while 13.1 billion cubic meters were formed in neighboring countries. In 2023, water resource usage amounted to 9.2 billion cubic meters, of which 3.2 billion cubic meters were lost due to infrastructure, evaporation, inefficient use of water, and illegal connections during water delivery from source to facilities."
