Armenia's policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis: A dark chapter in human history

August 8, 2021 marks the 33rd anniversary of the expulsion of the last Azerbaijanis from Armenia. After the Armenian authorities forcibly evicted the residents of the village of Nuvedi in the Zangazur region from their native lands on August 8, 1991, not a single Azerbaijani remained in Armenia. This event marked the end of the final deportation that began in 1987, resulting in the expulsion of 300,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia, a fact that remains a dark chapter in human history.

According to a statement by the Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC), they will never accept this injustice committed against Western Azerbaijanis.

Report informs that the WAC demands the creation of conditions for the safe and dignified return of their compatriots expelled from the territory of present-day Armenia, based on the right of return enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other important acts.

The WAC calls on the international community to support ensuring the security of Azerbaijanis expelled from the territory of present-day Armenia, enabling them to return to their native lands, and to adopt legally binding international acts with an appropriate verification and guarantee mechanism. The community condemns attempts to discriminate on ethnic and religious grounds regarding the right of return and emphasizes the need to adhere to the principles of reciprocity and equality in this context.
