Bryza: Escalation at Azerbaijan-Armenia border - step back from last meeting in Brussels

The latest exchange of shooting on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border and death of soldiers on both sides occurs against the very promising backdrop represented by the meeting in Brussels by Ilham Aliyev, Nikol Pashinyan and the EU, chaired by Charles Michel, Matthew Bryza, former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, former US deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told Report.

“The situation feels to me that it’s taking a step back. It means that Russia has been drawn into this situation in a new way since the last Karabakh war now that Armenia has appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization. As planned, the November meeting will still take place, I hope,” he noted.

On September 12, units of the Armenian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale provocation in the Dashkesan, Kalbajar and Lachin directions of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border.
