Germany, the UN Environmental Program, GIZ are ready to cooperate and to do something for both stopping the inflicts of polluted water and for mitigating the consequences of this, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig told journalists, as quoted by Report.
“These are practical items of cooperation which we run to encourage,” the ambassador said, adding that the work on fixing the polluted water in Karabakh can be carried out together by Azerbaijanis and Armenians: this is an opportunity for the joint work of environmentalists and governments.
He noted that this is necessary to bring people together without overthinking of what happened in past: “We had the same experience in Germany after the war. It took a lot of time to have the reconciliations between Germans and other people."
The ambassador added that Germany encourages Azerbaijan and Armenia to consider a year after the end of the conflict as a new starting point, to establish not only political contacts but also between people: “It is important for people to reconcile, to be open and say 'we’re ready to interact',” he said.
In July, IDPs from Azerbaijan’s Zangilan district appealed to German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig to take action against the German company CRONIMET, which operates in the mining sector of Armenia, not observing environmental standards, as a result of which the transboundary Okhchuchay River is being polluted.
