The trip of French presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse to Armenia is an attempt to earn additional political points in the upcoming elections, diplomat and former foreign minister of Azerbaijan Tofig Zulfugarov told Report.
He said that Pécresse is a candidate from the French party, which have strong traditions in French politics, but now she has moved away from them, “declaring those traditions that are characteristic of radicals.”
“The Armenian diaspora and its votes in France make up 1%, and since, according to experts, the elections are going to be tense, the struggle for each percentage is carried out with the use of illegal means,” Zulfugarov said.
However, French presidential candidate Pécresse after Yerevan made an illegal visit to Karabakh in search of funds for her election campaign. The question remains why Russian peacekeepers allow such trips.
“Russia, with the hands of peacekeepers, gave this candidate an opportunity to earn points. The Lachin corridor must be taken under control. These kinds of visits create additional argumentation in this direction, so this issue must be resolved in order to prevent such games related to the issues of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty,” Zulfugarov added.
