MP: Armenia starts compensating for damage caused to Azerbaijan

"Armenia has already started compensating for the damage it caused to Azerbaijan. To confirm this, it is enough to see the trilateral statement," said Nizami Safarov, member of the Milli Majlis Committee for Legal Policy and State Construction, member of the Litigation and Legal Council.

Report informs that he spoke during the roundtable discussions on 'The Military Crimes and Crimes of Genocide in the Context of International Law.'

He said Armenia is already fulfilling the first part of the agreement to compensate for the damage and is withdrawing its troops from the territory of Azerbaijan.

"Our government is also carrying out the respective proceeding and taking respective actions related to the payment of the compensation."

Safarov noted that it is also necessary to consider the damage caused to the cultural wealth of Azerbaijan: "The cultural values, exported from Azerbaijan, must also be returned to us. This matter must involve both UNESCO, the UN, and separate western countries. The damage caused to cultural heritage must be compensated. Persons who committed such crimes must be held accountable. Unfortunately, we are witnessing double standards in this sphere, too."

The parliament member also noted that Armenia is violating the provisions, requirements of the convention that it joins and shows irresponsibility towards international law.
