Peace treaty is only chance for Armenia, says Russian expert

Instead of normal, constructive interaction and reasonable, restrained behavior after its defeat, Armenia is conducting provocations, shelling, and confrontations. This old, vulgar and hackneyed technique is being implemented to draw Azerbaijan into a new round of confrontations and present Armenia as a victim of Azerbaijani aggression, a military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko told Report.

“This is a road to nowhere, to a historical impasse, a step on the same rake. If Armenia chooses it, all that remains is to sympathize,” Korotchenko said.

The expert believes that Armenia’s provocative actions are a consequence of the lack of awareness of how the world and the geopolitical situation, in general, have changed. In his opinion, a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, unblocking of transport and economic communications, the earliest possible launch of the Zangazur corridor is the only chance for the development and restoration of the Armenian economy. And the choice of the elites does not benefit the Armenian people.

“It was Armenia which arranged an economic blockade for itself, claiming the lands of Azerbaijan and Turkey. Russia will not provide and subsidize the prosperity of Armenia. It is a sovereign state,” Korotchenko concluded.

In the early hours of July 15, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the vicinity of Shusha came under fire from small arms. The fire was conducted by illegal Armenian detachments located in the Azerbaijan territories, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed.
