President calls Shusha's surrender to enemy a betrayal

"Those in power at the time made empty promises that Shusha would be taken away sooner or later instead of liberating Shusha," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said while answering questions from young people at the Youth Forum.

The head of state said that when Shusha was occupied, everyone thought it was temporary:

"Those in power at the time made empty promises that Shusha would be taken away sooner or later instead of liberating Shusha. However, in fact, they were directly involved in the handover of Shusha to the enemy. It was a betrayal, treachery. Today, everyone in Shusha sees that it was almost impossible to seize that city. The way we liberated Shusha is a separate saga, the peak of heroism, the synthesis of spiritual and physical strength. This is the peak of self-sacrifice," the head of state said.
