Turkic Council delegation of ministers and high-ranking officials has visited the Imarat cemetery in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam city, liberated last fall from Armenian occupation, Report informs.

The cemetery houses the graves of the Karabakh Khanate's Azerbaijani Turkic nobility, including its khans.

The participants of the trip were informed that the gravestones of Panah Ali Khan, the founder of the Karabakh Khanate, as well as Ibrahim Khalil Khan and his son Mehdigulu Khan, poet Khurshidbanu Natavan, daughter of Mehdigulu Khan, are in the cemetery. Other prominent figures who are descendants of the Karabakh khans are also buried here.

After the occupation of Aghdam by Armenia in 1993, the cemetery was subjected to Armenian vandalism. Armenian vandals also destroyed the mausoleum of Ibrahimkhalil Khan and the tombstone of Natavan.

The leaders of political parties and political scientists visiting the historic site are accompanied by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration.
