Sahiba Gafarova: Armenia committed acts of separatism, terrorism against Azerbaijan

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova made a speech at the First Global Parliamentary Summit on Counter-Terrorism on September 9 in Vienna, Austria.

The speaker noted that after 9/11, the prevention and fight against terrorism had become one of the most critical issues on the agenda of states.

Noting the importance of providing the necessary support to the victims of terrorism and their families worldwide, Sahiba Gafarova added that parliaments should play an important role in creating effective mechanisms to offer the most significant possible assistance and develop inclusive laws that generate cooperation among the government, civil society organizations, the media, and the private sector. Relevant laws and regulations on support for victims of terrorism should reflect the principles and commitments set out in the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the Resolution on Strengthening International Cooperation to Assist Victims of Terrorism.

Recalling Azerbaijan's consistent support to the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the elimination of links between foreign fighters, terrorist financing, terrorism, violent separatism, extremism, and other illegal activities, the Speaker stressed that last year's 44-day war clearly showed the link between violent separatism, terrorism, and extremism, which Armenia actively uses against Azerbaijan.

The speaker noted that taking into account the special conditions for the victims of terrorist acts against Azerbaijan, our country has extensive and sustainable state and non-governmental assistance to meet the needs of victims of terrorism. Azerbaijan's policy in this area aims to rapidly normalize the lives of victims of terrorism and their families.
