Residents of Anton-Günter street in Germany's Chemnitz held protests over the refugee hostel.
Report's European bureau informs that protestors took to the streets due to the plans of the city municipality to transform the area used as a storehouse of an old plant into a hostel and accommodate refuge seekers here.
Residents say the accommodation of refugees in the area they live will have a negative impact on their lives and change the criminogenic situation in the stable region,
"Today, the municipality has no building where so many people could be moved. Therefore, the municipality has rented a storehouse of one of the plants. In this storehouse, it is planned to build a hostel made of containers. The surveillance cameras and employees of a security firm will monitor the area," the municipality said.
People from African countries, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Georgia, Iran, and Azerbaijan currently live in a gym. Seven Azerbaijani citizens are among those to be moved to a new hostel. Of them, three are members of one family.
