At least 12 killed in opposition protests in Islamabad

At least 12 people, including 10 Pakistani law enforcement officers, were killed in clashes with protesters from the opposition Justice Movement party in Islamabad, according to Geo TV channel, Report informs via TASS.

According to their information, Pakistani law enforcement agencies are making efforts to contain the advance of opposition supporters' column heading toward the central districts of the city and to suppress the unrest.

According to the TV channel, 12 deaths have been confirmed so far, including 7 Rangers officers (a paramilitary unit of Pakistan's Interior Ministry), 2 police officers, and a border corps representative. It is also reported that more than 100 police officers were injured during the clashes, with some in critical condition. In turn, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attacks by opposition Justice Movement party supporters on the country's law enforcement officers.

"Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack by protesters on Rangers officers and police officers on Srinagar Highway," according to a statement issued by the press service of the Islamic Republic's government head's Secretariat.
