French Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin announced in a message sent to all prefects that all measures should be taken to limit the “capacity to cause trouble” and to keep the most dangerous individuals monitored by the services “away from events” - i.e. the upcoming Olympics in Paris, reads the Monthly Policy Briefings for April/May 2024 issued by Cage, a London-based advocacy organization, Report informs.
According to Cage, Moral panic has become part and parcel of the State’s structure and engineers intrusive policies meant to subdue politically active and dissenting Muslims psychologically.
“Gerald Darmanin detailed a system of detection and obstruction targeting all Islamists and jihadists registered in the file of alerts for the prevention of radicalization for terrorist purposes,” reads the monthly report.
Prefects are required to establish - without delay - interventionary measures “of any kind” for “any target” registered in the aforementioned file. These include raids, house arrests and short imprisonments.
“These political updates prove that the State has officially adopted an Islamophobic conspiratorial line according to which its very foundations are about to be broken by its Muslim community,” Cage said.
