CEC: Seven candidates to continue in Belarus presidential election race

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has registered seven initiative groups to collect voter signatures in support of nominating candidates for the presidency, Report informs, the CEC.

At today's CEC meeting, the commission has registered three initiative groups for nominating Hanna Kanapatskaya, a candidate in the 2020 Belarusian presidential election, Sergei Bobrikov, Chairman of the Republican Council of the Belarusian Union of Officers, and Sergei Syrankov, Belarusian Communist Party leader, as presidential candidates.

The CEC has refused to register the initiative groups of Diana Kovalyova and Viktor Kulesh.

Earlier, the CEC had registered the initiative groups of the current Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Liberal Democratic Party leader Oleg Gaidukevich, Republican Party of Labor and Justice leader Alexander Khizhnyak, and Head of the Minsk Executive City Committee's Department for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs Olga Chemodanova.

The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for January 26, 2025.
