Central Bank of Afghanistan freezes bank accounts of former ministers

The Central Bank of Afghanistan has frozen the accounts of former members of parliament, ministers and other officials, Report informs referring to TASS.

At the same time, Taliban-appointed Prime Minister Mohammad Hasan urged officials of the former government on September 8 to return to Afghanistan to “contribute to the security and well-being of [the country],” according to Al Jazeera channel, citing a source in the Taliban movement.

In addition, on September 8, one of the representatives of the movement again called on the US leadership to provide the new authorities of Afghanistan with access to the state reserves for about $10 billion frozen by the US side. Earlier, the Central Bank of Afghanistan applied to the US with a similar request. However, according to Reuters, the Americans refused to provide the Taliban with access to funds.
