Estonia’s defense spending to rise to 2.7% of GDP

Estonia’s defense spending will rise to at least 2.7% of GDP, and the total cost may reach 1.2 billion euros, Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur said, Report informs referring to the national TV and radio company ERR.

He noted that this is required by the current security situation.

“Membership in NATO implies a cost for a participating country of 2% of GDP, but Estonia has already surpassed this figure,” he said.

Pevkur noted that this includes strengthening air defense, coastal defense systems, and the purchase of HIMARS MLRS.
