On September 12, the European Council may approve, following the European Commission (EC), a document on the abolition of the simplified visa regime with Russia. The suspension of the lightweight system involves an increase in the fee to 80 euros from 35, as well as an extension of the processing time to 45 days instead of 10.
Report informs, citing foreign media, that applicants for a Schengen visa will have to provide more documents than before. The duration of entry permits is likely to be reduced.
The European Council does not exclude the possibility of reviewing already issued visas at the national level. Consulates have already been advised to check those who wish to receive a document for security risks.
