Finland starts vaccination of children aged over 12 years

The Finnish authorities have started the vaccination of children aged 12 to 15 years, Report informs referring to TASS.

These persons can be vaccinated without the consent of their legal representatives.

The country’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Health earlier reported that vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, which are approved in the country for people over 12 years old, will be used for immunization. Vaccinations can be carried out in schools. Children can independently decide on vaccination without the consent of legal representatives.

“A minor can decide on vaccination, provided that the healthcare professional who administers the jab concludes that the minor can make such decision, taking into account his age and developmental level,” the ministry explained in a press release.

Until now, it has been recommended to vaccinate children only if they belong to a risk group and only with Pfizer.

The increase in the number of infection cases in Finland began in July after a decline in May-June. The total number of infected during the entire time of the pandemic exceeded 112,000.
