Fire near British base in Cyprus brought under control

A fire that broke out on July 8 early afternoon in the village of Fasouri, located in the Limassol district of Cyprus and close to the Akrotiri military base, has been brought under control, Report informs referring to Cyprus Mail.

The fire burned several trees, as well as wild vegetation.

According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the response to the blaze consisted in the deployment of four firefighting vehicles, two belonging to the Fire Service and the other to the forestry department.

Additionally, five aircrafts have been dispatched to assist in firefighting efforts.

The area affected by the fire falls under the jurisdiction of the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) forces, which called on the public to avoid using the roads in the area, to ensure the orderly movement of the fire brigade.
