French Healthcare Ministry: Delta variant to become dominant soon

Delta variant of COVID will soon become the dominant strain in France, Healthcare Minister Olivier Veran said, Report informs referring to TASS.

“The delta variant will soon become dominant in France, perhaps this will happen next weekend,” the minister said on the air of France Inter radio station. Veran noted that this strain is much more infectious than previous variants, and therefore the authorities are urging all French people not to neglect vaccinations and to follow sanitary measures.

According to the French authorities, about 50 percent of new cases of coronavirus infection in France account for the Delta variant. In connection with the deterioration of the sanitary situation in the republic, the government does not exclude the risk of a fourth wave of the pandemic this summer.
