French police detain 170 during clashes following World Cup semifinal

French police detained 170 people during clashes sparked by Morocco's defeat in the World Cup semifinal.

Of them, over 100 were nabbed in Paris which saw major clashes between the fans and the police on Champs Elysees, Report informs via AFP.

A group of 40 people was detained for carrying guns including in Paris.

"They were obviously going to stage a brawl on Champs Elysees," a source in the Paris police said.

The police officers used tear gas and sound grenades to disperse the crowd.

Morocco's defeat in the semifinal of the World Cup in Qatar sparked clashes all around Europe.

Boy, 14, has been killed as riots broke out in France after Morocco's World Cup defeat to Les Bleus.

Teport informs via foreign media that the teen was part of a large group of what appeared to be Moroccan supporters marauding down Rue de la Mosson in the southern French city when they happened upon a white hatchback with a French flag flying out of its window.

The group descended on the car, attempting to rip the flag away from its owner, when the driver panicked and performed a hasty U-turn to cross into the oncoming lane and make a quick getaway.

Several members of the crowd could not react in time and the teenager was sucked under the wheels, sustaining critical injuries. Authorities confirmed he was transferred to a nearby hospital but later died.

French and Moroccan football supporters clashed in cities across France and Belgium following the semi-finals of the World Cup.
