The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the use of the coronavirus vaccine Covaxin, manufactured by the Indian company Bharat Biotech, for limited immunization of children aged six to 12 years, NDTV says, Report informs via TASS.

DCGI also required the vaccine manufacturer to provide data on the progress of vaccination of children, including data on adverse events after vaccination every 15 days for the first two months.

Earlier, on March 16, Indian authorities allowed children aged 12 to 14 to be vaccinated against COVID-19 with Indian-made Corbevax. Vaccination of adolescents aged 15 to 18 began in India in January 2022.

Vaccination against the coronavirus among the adult population began in India in mid-January 2021. In total, according to the Indian Health Ministry, as of early April 26, 2022, 1,879,576,423 doses of vaccine jabs were administered in the country, including the first and second doses, as well as booster shots.
