Indonesia to enforce stricter restrictions due to Delta

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has announced that quarantine will be tightened from July 3 due to the spread of the Delta strain, Report informs, citing TASS.

"In recent days, the situation has been rapidly deteriorating and requires us to take more decisive steps. The most serious restrictions come into force on July 3 on the island of Java and the province of Bali, where the most difficult situation is observed," the head of state emphasized.

The president said the regime would last until July 20. In recent days, the country has registered a record increase in the number of infections.

Thus, on June 27, the number of daily cases exceeded 21,800 people. The main concern is the high prevalence of infection among children. In total, 2.1 million have contracted COVID-19 since the outbreak, and 58,400 died. In terms of these indicators, Indonesia ranks second in Asia after India.
