At least 41 people died, over 100 are missing in Andhra-Pradesh, a state in southeastern India, due to heavy monsoon rains and the flash floods they caused.
Report informs, citing TASS, that the rainfalls, which started on November 18 evening, disrupted the routine life in Rayalaseema and Nellore, where 1,316 villages were flooded. The floods caused the bridge collapse, cutting railway and road communication with Tirupati, The Times of India reports.
Authorities are conducting rescue operations in the affected areas. The measures involve the air force helicopters and services for fight against natural calamities.
The government of Andhra-Pradesh announced the payment of 500,000 rupees (nearly $6,700) to the victims' families.
Meteorologists say over 518 mm of precipitation has fallen in the state since October 1, a 68% drop over an average level for this period.
