The Portuguese government plans to pilot a four-day work week in both the public and private sectors, according to El Pais newspaper, Report informs referring to TASS.
The project will be implemented from next summer. It does not provide for a reduction in the wages of workers. Until January 2023, applications will be collected from companies interested in the experiment, which will last six months. The Portuguese government will not subsidize the enterprises participating in the pilot project in order to obtain an objective assessment.
The second phase of the project is expected to roll out to the public sector in 2024. In addition, in one of the stages, 60 randomly selected companies will receive grants to conduct a study to compare the effect of a four-day week with enterprises that maintain a traditional work schedule.
