South Korea's daily coronavirus tally hits record high

South Korea confirmed 3,290 new coronavirus infections in one day, an all-time high since January of the last year when the country recorded its first case, Korea's disease control and prevention department said in a statement.

Report informs, citing TASS, that the previous maximum of 3,270 people was fixed on September 25 after the country canceled most of the restrictive measures.

The total number of infections since the onset of the pandemic in South Korea reached 406,065. The number of patients in severe and critical conditions reached 506 people. Meanwhile, 29 patients died of complications caused by COVID-19. The total number of deaths makes 3,187, and the death rate is at 0.78%.

As part of the vaccination that started in February of this year, 81.2% of the population was administered the first dose, and 77.8% was immunized fully.
