Talibs ask UN to stay in Afghanistan

The Taliban expressed support for the United Nations and asked the organization to stay in the country and continue the humanitarian activity, UN Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, Azerbaijani native Ramiz Alakbarov, told RIA Novosti on the phone from Kabul, Report informs.

"Practical interaction between the UN humanitarian office in Afghanistan and Taliban continue for 18 years. We have been continuously working with them for all this time. And we have established mutual ties on implementation of humanitarian activity," Alakbarov said.

He noted that there had been 'no new agreements' within the past days between the office and the Taliban.

"We maintain working contacts. They reiterated their support for us and asked us to stay here and continue humanitarian assistance," Alakbarov said.

He added that in conditions of the changing situation, 'naturally, there will be some specifications and details of interaction will be elaborated.'

"But so far, there are no new additions to the agreements, based on which we work," he explained.

As for the moments of interaction to be negotiated with the Taliban, the coordinator said that, in the first place, it is the issue of access of women who work in humanitarian conditions to their workplaces.

He noted that women face such obstacles in some areas, but 'everything depends on the commander in a particular area.'

"We have not yet seen any centralized instructions," Alakbarov added.
