US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman had a telephone conversation with her counterparts from France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom to discuss sanctions against Russia and Belarus, US Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price said in a press statement, Report informs, citing TASS.
According to Price, Sherman spoke with Secretary-General of the French Foreign Ministry Francois Delattre, Political Director of the German Foreign Ministry Tjorven Bellmann, Secretary-General of the Italian Foreign Ministry Ettore Sequi, and UK Minister of State for Europe and North America James Cleverly.
"The group discussed the need for all countries - including the People's Republic of China - to refrain from providing material support to Russia," the statement reads. "They also discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Ukraine" and the impacts of the conflict on global food security.
"The participants agreed to continue coordinated efforts to isolate the Russian Federation on the international stage," it says. The Deputy Secretary reiterated the United States' support for Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire."
