The US authorities are studying information that the ex-President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani took millions of dollars from the republic before the country's seizure by the Taliban,
US Government Inspector General for Reconstruction in Afghanistan John Sopko said he was examining all the data on Ghani's escape with the money.
It is not yet proven, but the investigation is continuing. The US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform asked to initiate the process, Sopko said during a congressional hearing.
Earlier, the ex-president denied accusations that he took out a large amount of money belonging to Afghan citizens. There were reports that he stole USD 169 million from the treasury.
