Deputy defense minister to become health minister in Georgia

The current Deputy Defense Minister of Georgia Zurab Azarashvili will head the country’s Ministry of Health, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a briefing, Report informs.

In Georgia, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers can appoint ministers without the consent of the parliament. Still, if one-third of the government members are replaced, re-approval of its entire composition by the MPs will be required.

The post of head of the Health Ministry became vacant after the former minister, Ekaterine Tikaradze, announced her resignation on December 9.

Azarashvili became Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia in February 2021.
