The former chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Anatoly Kvashnin, has died aged 76. The cause of the death was a coronavirus infection, Report informs citing TASS.
Since February 1995, Kvashnin led the troops of the North Caucasian Military District, in 1997, he became chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, in 2004 he was transferred to the reserve.
The media noted that Kvashnin made a dizzying military career as a graduate of a civilian university (he graduated from the Kurgan Machine-Building Institute), having completed all the stages of the army positions from deputy commander of a tank company to chief of the General Staff - first deputy minister of defense of Russia.
