Georgia begins withdrawing peacekeepers from Afghanistan

Georgia has begun withdrawing its peacekeeping contingent within the NATO mission of Resolute Support from Afghanistan.

Report informs, citing the Georgian Defense Ministry, that some Georgian servicemen have already returned home.

Georgia has been involved in the mission since 2004. The Georgian military is stationed at Bagram Air Base, Kabul, and Mazar-i-Sharif.

There are currently 860 Georgian servicemen serving in Afghanistan. 32 Georgian servicemen were killed during the peacekeeping mission.
