The leaders of the border regions of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan began negotiations in connection with the aggravation of the situation on the common section of the border, according to the Border Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security, Report informs referring to TASS.
“A meeting of the delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, headed by the leaders of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and the Sughd region of Tajikistan, began in the Radar area of the Batken region,” the report says.
The meeting is also attended by border representatives of the parties, heads of departments of law enforcement agencies and district administrations of the two republics.
“The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in the Batken region is currently characterized as tense,” the ministry noted.
According to the Kyrgyz side, on September 14, Tajik border guards entered an undelimited section of the border near the Bulak-Bashi area of the Batken district of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and took combat positions. In response to the demand of the Kyrgyz military to leave the territory, the border guards of Tajikistan opened fire, after which a shootout ensued. A few hours later, a shootout also took place in the areas of Kak-Sai and Paski-Arik in the Batken region.
The Kyrgyz side reports two servicemen who were injured during the incident.
