IAEA to send second mission of experts to Chornobyl nuke plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will send a second expert mission to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi tweeted, Report informs.

“I am dispatching 2nd mission to Chornobyl NPP in coming weeks. IAEA experts to provide support on radiation protection, waste management safety, nuclear security, & to conduct safeguards activities. Safety & security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities remains my top priority,” he wrote.

He has visited Ukraine twice since the start of hostilities. For the first time at the end of March, he visited the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. For the second time at the end of April, he visited the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, leading the first mission of IAEA experts to deliver technical equipment, measure radiation levels and restore the nuclear safeguards monitoring system at the station.

The purpose of the IAEA mission in Ukraine is to prevent the threat of a nuclear incident due to military actions.
